Following more than 3,000 votes and weeks of waiting, here is the latest batch of captive insurance professionals to make it into this year’s Captive Review Power 50.
40 Paul Corver – Group Head of M&A, R&Q – Up 5
Following Corver’s entry into the Captive Review Power 50 last year, R&Q has continued its flurry of activity with him at the helm. Now responsible for all run-off acquisition activity, the firm has tied up a number of deals around the globe, most recently picking up Coffey Group’s Dublin captive. Corver is a known expert in the run-off business.
39 Daniel Kusaila – Partner, Crowe Horwarth – Up 8
US-based Kusaila has become a go-to partner for his tax expertise following the high profile falls outs of Avrahami and Reserve Mechanical Corp. With the year ahead likely to be disruptive for captives domiciles in the US, Kusaila is likely to be called upon for his knowledge and know-how. Outspoken and highly regarded by industry peers, Kusaila’s role is likely to increase in influence.
38 Phil Giles – VP Sales & Marketing, Accident & Health, QBE – Down 3
An expert in the medical-stop loss market, Giles has turned QBE into a leading light in the US captive space. Well-known and well-liked, Giles has grown his book of business substantially in the past and is now perfectly positioned to capitalise further.
37 Remy Massol – Multinational Director, Chubb- Down 1
Paris-based Massol has more than 10 years of experience working with captive insurance companies, helping to structure their programmes and alternative risk transfer. Having also enjoyed a spell at AIG, Massol is widely respected throughout the community. He has now been with Chubb for more than seven years, where he works as multinational director of continental Europe.
36 Barry Perkins – Captive & Global Insurance Solutions Leader, Mercer – Up 4
As Mercer’s first captive and global insurance solutions leader, Perkins is working with Marsh Captive Solutions providing advice and consultancy services to their list of multinational clients on a global scale. Prior to his current role, Perkins has also worked for both Willis Towers Watson, HSBC and Allianz. Working with the MMC Group, Perkins will be developing employee benefits solutions to some of the world’s largest multinationals.
35 James Bulkowski – US Captive Insurance Services Co-leader, EY – Up 6
A senior manager on EY’s impressive captive insurance team, Bulkowski has more than 20 years of experience in the industry. Prior to joining EY, Bulkowski has enjoyed stints at both Marsh and Aon, working as vice president and senior vice president respectively. Bulkowski now specialises in P&C for captives.
34 Mike Meehan – Consultant, Milliman – Up 5
Boston-based Meehan has experience in loss reserving, feasibility studies and financial pro formas for captives and wider insurance companies. Widely touted as a forward thinker and innovator for captives, Meehan works closely with a number of industry associations and is happy to divulge his previous experience.
33 John Prescott – Managing Partner, Johnson & Lambert – Down 1
Known throughout the community as a leading figure on captive auditing, Prescott has vast experience across all types of captives to his business. He is also a member of the VCIA, NRRA, AICPA and is involved in the strategic oversight committee at Johnson & Lambert. Prescott is responsible for the strategic growth of the business as well as managing relationships with major clients.
32 Andrew Stocker – VP Business Development, Maxis – Up 1
Stocker is another professional influencing and driving business in employee benefits programmes being picked up by captives. As Maxis continues to grow, Stocker, who serves as head of business development, is leading the charge and transforming Maxis into a leading partner for captives. Well regarded by many, Stocker’s reputation is likely to grow as Maxis deepens its relationship with multinationals.
31 Steve McElhiney – Incoming Chairman, CICA – New Entry
The incoming chairman of CICA, McElhiney has a career spanning more than two decades in the insurance industry. Currently president of EWI Re, McElhiney has extensive experience in insurance company financial issues such as catastrophe management, economic capital and run-off solutions. A former board chair of VCIA, McElhiney is a well-known and respected figure in an industry that is continuing to evolve.
