Trinidad Navarro, the Delaware insurance commissioner, has won re-election for a second term.

Navarro, who is a Democrat, beat Republication challenger Julia Pillsbury with 60% of the vote.

Delaware is the third-largest captive domicile in the US, with 320 captives in the state.

Only 11 US states elect an insurance commissioner, with all other states seeing the commissioner appointed by the state Governor.

Navarro worked as a police officer, and then a insurance agent prior to running for insurance commissioner in 2016.

However his first term had moments of controversy, with two female employees of the Delaware Department of Insurance filing separate harassment lawsuits against Navarro in the last year. There has not been a verdict in either case.
