Captive Review Hall of Fame 2021

Five years ago, Captive Review introduced the Hall of Fame to the Power 50. It was a way to celebrate the most influential individuals who have contributed to the industry for decades and without who the industry would not be where it is today.

The captive professionals in these pages have knowledge and expertise that is vast, and each is gracious enough to willing share it.

This year we introduce four individuals to the Hall of Fame—Michael Corbett, Steve McElhiney, Paul Woehrmann, and Michael Zuckerman.

Michael Corbett

Corbett has long been a vocal advocate of the captive industry, and particularly of Tennessee as a domicile. One of the founding members of the Tennessee Captive Insurance Association (TCIA) Corbett currently serves on its board of directors. He joined the Tennessee Department of Captive Insurance (TDCI) in 2011 and shaped the domicile, leading to large growth for Tennessee’s captive insurance industry. After working for the Tennessee regulator for eight years, last year Corbett moved to Pinnacle Financial Partners, where he is continuing to contribute to the captive industry.

Steve McElhiney

A well-known face in the US captive industry, McElhiney has a number of impressive achievements under his belt. Currently CEO and chairman of EWI Re, he is the past chair of both CICA and VCIA as well as the past president of the CPCU Society. Respected and sort out for his knowledge when it comes to reinsurance needs for captives and the complexities surrounding that, McElhiney often speaks at captive events to share his wisdom.

Paul Woehrmann

One of the most dedicated captive insurance experts in Europe, Woehrmann not only has 30 years’ experience in the industry but a passion that is near unrivalled. He currently leads Zurich’s captive services team for Europe, Middle East, Africa, Asia Pacific and LatAm, managing a global team that works on both life and non-life captives. Having contributed pearls of wisdom to the industry for years, Woehrmann remains a thought leader for both Zurich and new players entering the space. He is a constant presence at conferences and on panels, speaking to media outlets and writing articles, always willing to give back to the captive community by sharing his valuable insights. Few industry people are as trusted and well regarded by multinationals as Woehrmann, who has continued to innovate, create and develop new programs for many years.

Michael Zuckerman

As an associate professor at Temple University, there are few in the world more academically qualified and knowledgeable about captive insurance than Zuckerman. He started teaching at the Temple University Fox School of Business in 2000, at that time alongside his role in Aon Risk Solutions. Now Zuckerman teaches at the well-respected business school while consulting, as well as lending his knowledge and expertise to the captive community.
