Cayman Report 2016

This year’s edition of Captive Review’s Cayman Report offers expert perspectives from a plethora of key industry players, identifying what exactly it is that makes Cayman what one contributor called a ‘centre of excellence’ for the captive industry.

Unsurprisingly, the contributors to this report unanimously praise the regulator for its role in developing a vibrant captive sector.  Similarly, they identify the availability of skills and expertise in Cayman as a key contributor to the jurisdiction’s success.

Analysis and detail of the day-to-day workings of some of Cayman’s best service providers is offered in this report, including the role of lawyers, mangers and actuaries.

In addition to this overview of the services and expertise available in Cayman, this report offers evaluation of the overall health of Cayman’s captive industry. Perhaps one of the most interesting evaluations in this respect, comes from ratings agency A.M. Best.

In their evaluations of Cayman, contributors this report have in a number of instances offered fascinating predictions about the future of the market, including their thoughts on what the jurisdiction must accomplish in order to deliver a bright future.

External influences to Cayman’s captive market are also a theme of discussion. Legislative and regulatory developments such as Fatca and CRS have undoubtedly had an impact.  Also identified are key US Tax Court rulings, which have brought about opportunities in risk management, insurance and alternative risk transfer.

The Cayman Islands Report is filled with positive reflection on the jurisdiction’s position over the last 12 months.

It is our hope that report proves to be an enjoyable and informative read, helping to deliver another 12 months of success for Cayman’s captive industry.
