Captive Review European Awards 2024: Winners revealed!

Leaders and professionals from the European captive market celebrated another year of excellence, as 22 awards were handed out in London last night

Captive professionals came together last night to celebrate what has been another year of exciting developments for the European captive market, at the Captive Review European Awards 2024.

Taking place at the One Moorgate Place in London, attendees from the European captive space and beyond networked and enjoyed an entertaining night, which included a drinks reception, three-course meal, and a hilarious host in comedian Eshaan Akbar.

After an unexpected delay caused by a fire alarm, the highlight of the night came as 22 awards were handed, including the prestigious outstanding contribution award, which this year went to HDI’s Etienne de Varax, who is retiring at the end of this year. You can find all the winners listed below.

We thank our esteemed judges for coming to the difficult decisions of who our winners should be in what was another year of outstanding entries. All those nominated should be proud of their role in once again taking the European captive industry to the next level over the last 12 months.

There has been a wave of momentum around the European captive market for a couple of years now. What started with France passing new captive legislation at the end of 2022, has been followed by new captive formations and a general heightened interest in captive solutions from firms across the continent, as other countries consider their own captive regimes and revisions are made to Solvency II that further enhance the potential benefits of owning a captive.

In London, where our awards were held, the UK government recently announced it is consulting on a new captive insurance framework for the country, while earlier this year the Lloyd’s market welcomed its first captive syndicate in over two decades. Both developments are raising hopes within the UK insurance sector that the city can become a hub for captives, just as it has long been for specialty insurance.

Against this backdrop, talent is needed more than ever. The evolving risk landscape and emergence of new risks lends itself to captive solutions, but risk managers will need knowledgeable professionals like those in the room last night to help answer their questions and ensure their captive is set up for long term success.
