Three new names are inducted into the Captive Review Hall of Fame this year, recognising those that have had a lasting influence on the captive insurance industry
The Captive Review Hall of Fame was introduced 10 years ago to honour those that have had a long-lasting influence on the captive insurance industry, and to ensure their contribution is not forgotten. The 42 names featured in our Honour Roll have all helped the industry progress, develop and evolve in one way or another – and that is certainly true of our three latest captive professionals to be inducted.
We are delighted to reveal that this year Kevin Doherty, Jennifer Gallagher and Nick Hentges are all honoured for the impact they have had on the captive industry. Congratulations to each on this deserved recognition. Read on to find out more about their achievements in the sector during their careers and why they have received this honour.
The Hall of Fame forms part of our Captive Review Power 50 2025 publication, which also includes the full 2025 Power 50 rankings and our Ones to Watch in the industry, alongside video interviews and thought leadership articles from some of those that were voted the most influential professionals in the captive insurance industry today.
Hall of Fame – New inductees
Kevin Doherty
In a career of more than 30 years, Doherty has become one of the most knowledgeable and well-connected lawyers in the captive insurance industry. This reputation has made him one of the most popular figures to turn to when forming a captive, being able to share his own expertise and involve others with expertise outside his own. His career has included several noteworthy achievements, including helping to lead the amicus brief against notice 2016-66, which was ultimately struck down, ensuring the IRS had to go through a comment and feedback procedure when it comes to disclosure rules for micro-captives taking the 831(b) tax election. He has also been a key figure in the growth of Tennessee as an attractive captive domicile, playing a leading role in re-writing the state’s captive statute, and helping to form the Tennessee Captive Insurance Association, which he also served with as a long-time board chair. After spells at Burr & Forman and Nelson Mullins, Doherty has spent the past eight years at Dickinson Wright and is still active in the captive industry. He continues to be a leading advocate for captives, regularly attending and speaking at captive insurance events, as well as in schools to share his valuable knowledge with the next generation.
Jennifer Gallagher
As one of the co-founding members of Artex in 1997, Gallagher has been one the most influential people to shape the captive insurance industry over the past three decades – both through her achievements in growing Artex into the industry giant it is today, and in the longstanding trail she has blazed for women in leadership positions at major captive insurance firms. Upon the founding of Artex alongside David McManus and fellow Hall of Famer Peter Mullen, Gallagher drove all the onshore operations of Innovative Risk Services, the sales arm of Artex, and oversaw impressive growth across all areas of the company which is today one of the world’s largest and successful global captive management firms. As Artex undergoes a transition in leadership this year, with Zeb Holt taking over as global CEO, Gallagher continues to hold an influential role in the company, as CEO of Artex North America – leading the North American staff of more than 200 professionals serving more than 1,600 clients. This gives her responsibility for staff and business operations within the US, including mergers and acquisitions, recruitment, branding, professional standards, product development, market management and new business production. In more recent years this has seen her lead oversight of Artex’s expansion of its onshore capabilities, through several ambitious projects.
Nick Hentges
Talk about how the group captive insurance concept has developed over the past few decades, and you can’t help but mention the contribution of Hentges and Captive Resources. Most notable for its role in bringing life to the group captive concept in the US – Hentges and Captive Resources have been key players in bringing much-needed control of insurance programmes for over 7000 US companies. Over his 32 years with the company, Hentges has overseen incredible growth in the company and earned a reputation as one of the industry’s standout leaders. In addition to his leadership skills, he has been a true advocate for captive insurance, regularly attending and speaking at captive insurance events, and helping usher the next generation into captive leadership roles through his role on the board of CICA’s NextGen committee. A former chair of the wider CICA board of directors in 2023/4, Hentges has given much back to the industry in recent years, which has coincided with five top ten rankings in the past five Power 50 publications. Having been sole CEO of Captive Resources since 2021, Hentges’ dedication to captive insurance means he’s likely to continue being an active contributor to the industry for years to come.
