Power 50: things are changing

In the many years since the debut of the Captive Review Power 50, it has almost become legend. Eagerly awaited each year, the global ranking of captive professionals causes discussion and debate when it is released. Things have shifted slightly over the years, but have followed the same general format when it comes to the release of the list.

However now, things are changing. For the first time, we’re setting out definitively what we’re looking for when we put someone in the Power 50.

People make it to the Power 50 for a number of reasons. The professionals who have made it into the list are there because they are at the top of the operational captive field, because they have a lot of influence in the industry and because their decisions have a large impact on the industry. Captive professionals who are hands on, who are visible, who are dealing with the industry face-to-face every day.

The individuals in the list are also here because they are well respected and well thought of, and because they give back to the industry, sharing their talents and expertise to help the captive community grow and improve. Essentially the Power 50 represents captive professionals who are visible, influential, generous and respected by their peers.

From now on we’re also introducing a rule that no more than three individuals from any one company are making it onto the list. This is to ensure that large organisations, while influential, don’t dominate the list with multiple employees represented, to the detriment of leading individuals from smaller organisations.

Since it’s a new decade, a new approach to the Power 50 and 20 years of Captive Review, we’re also doing away with indicating, for this issue, if a person has moved up or down in the rankings, or if they are a new entrant. It’s a fresh start for the list and so a clean slate for everyone.

Tomorrow numbers 50-31 of the Power 50 will come out. Get ready.
